Employment: Automotive Mechanic

GET AN HOURLY RATE/NOT FLAT RATE

The Automotive Technician will perform repairs and maintenance for cars, light trucks, and other motor vehicles.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Adheres to all Barnwell House of Tires’ safety protocols and works in a safe manner.
  • Receiving and carrying out Repair Orders as dispatched.
  • Performing diagnostic services and troubleshooting to determine repair needs on vehicles and light trucks.
  • Inspect and test vehicles for necessary repairs and maintenance.
  • Providing labor, time, and parts estimates for repair services.
  • Performing high-quality and efficient repair services for various automotive systems, including engine, steering, suspension, brakes, and air conditioning in accordance with factory standards.
  • Completing all required paperwork and documentation for repair services.
  • Maintaining an organized, clean workspace and accounting for company and personal tools at all times.
  • Communicating directly and efficiently with Service Advisors and customers.
  • Identify mechanical problems, either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment.
  • Perform tests on specific parts and systems to confirm proper mechanical function; ensure that all critical parts are examined.
  • Keep equipment available by inspecting and testing vehicles and completing preventive maintenance such as engine tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotation and changes, wheel balancing, and replacing filters.
  • Maintain vehicle functional condition by addressing customer concerns, conducting inspections, repairing engine failures, repairing mechanical and electrical systems malfunctions, replacing parts and components, and repairing body damage.
  • Plans and establishes timetable to complete repairs and maintenance.
  • Test drive vehicles to confirm safe and proper operation.
  • Performs further tests, including test driving the vehicle, to ensure repairs are completed correctly.
  • Other duties as assigned as business needs are required.

Work Environment

Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. Employees are occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Training/Education:

 

  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Clean Driver’s License
  • Inspector License a +
  • ASE Certification a +

 

Experience:

 

  • 3+ years experience as a diagnostic automotive technician/mechanic.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills

 

The salary range for the position of Automotive Mechanic/Technician is $20-$30 per hour. Many factors go into determining employee pay within the range, including prior experience, current skills, location/labor market, internal equity, etc.
